Default Series IIA engine sputtering

My 1962 Series IIA 88" has recently begun to sputter when I accelerate. It gets worse once the engine has warmed up and it causes a very jolted uncomfortable ride that is nearly impossible to drive. When I rev the engine in my driveway I smell unburned fuel and black residue comes out of my exhaust pipe. The engine makes a spluttering noise almost as if it is running out of gas even though my tank is full and the fuel screen is clean.
The engine sputters a little bit when I am in neutral and rev the engine but it gets really bad when I am driving it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what this may be and how I can go about fixing it? Thanks for any help.
