Window Lift ECU Problem
It's the "window lift ECU for our '95 Disco I" story, coming back to haunt this forum on Halloween.
Initially (long story here), the rear windows wouldn't roll down *from time to time*. No big deal there, right? Then, mysteriously, the front windows stopped working. After reading some posts on here, I replaced the ECU (after trying, unsuccessfully, to re-solder it). This allowed the front windows to roll down, but then the rear windows didn't at all.
Ok, if you thought that was weird, here comes the really weird stuff. The rear windows started working - ANYTIME AT ALL - even with the key removed from the ignition. Then, tragically, the new (used) ECU I bought failed, and the front windows were stuck down. So, I hot-wired the motors on both (yes, with a 12V converter), just so they would stay up. Out of no where, as the wife was driving, the hazard lights came on and flashed continuously. The fuse for the turn signals had blown, so I replaced it and -WHAM!- the fuse blew, the windows rolled down on their own and the hazard flashers came back on. I had to disconnect the battery, and duct tape plastic to keep the weather (and cats and everything else) out, while I waited for a new ECU. This I installed yesterday, but, alas, the front windows still do not roll down. The rear windows do, but thankfully will not with the ignition off, and the hazards have stopped, so I got that going for me...All the fuses are their correct values and not blown.
I don't have the means or money to take it to the dealer, so any insight provided would be greatly appreciated. Should I try soldering this new one? Should I ask for a replacement from the parts distributor? Why Land Rover, why?
