I am not sure they have really sorted the problems but there are heaps of cars both old and new that have never had the problems (there are also heaps that have).

Keep the cooling system serviced, replaced the thermostat regularly, replace the coolant regularly and make sure the coolant is never allowed to drop - if there is any sign of stress/overheating from the engine - stop.

If you do these things, even if the problems have not been fixed, the less chance of problems with your car.
