I have no idea if this is related, but I have had carb problems this last couple of days and I just figured out what was wrong.
I ahve not owned my Series 3 long and the previous owner spent a lot of time on the engine and running gear but has bodged the body. Loads of squeeks and rattles. I spent Sunday tightening and putting the boddy straight. A quick trip out down a bumpy lane proved that most of the squeeks were sorted. On the way back I put my foot down a bit too much over a hump and took off!! Great fun but I noticed that the engine was idling really quick.
After much head scratching I found that the arm on the end of the throttle had twisted around giving the effect that the choke was pulled right out or I had my foot on the accelerator. A quick twist had it fixed in no time. If you have checked all of the adjustments of the fuel system and the ignition, then it may be something simple like this.
Did you let the engine warm up before setting everything up? Did you overhall the carb? your Jet could be warn. Have you checked all of the plugs and points and set the gaps properly?
Other than that, I have no other ideas.
Good luck though!!
