I wrote an email to see what luck and effort the gent has had with his version of an electric supercharger on larger displacement engines. He has used this in domestic and import platforms and I , for one, would be interested what he has done for a similar stock 4.0L.
Yes, the electric supercharger is intended for WOT, but I see it more of something you only need when you need the additional horsepower. Who needs nitro or 20 more hp when you are in city traffic or for that matter, parking?
Conventional superchargers are on all the time and are thus not needed most of the time. Turbochargers are very much more involved since you are tapping into exhaust and doing intercoolers and have to deal with issues such as turbo lag and turbo timers to let that turbo spin down properly.
The electric supercharger is intended much as NOS or the MadMax A/C clutch on the Roots supercharger; when you need it or want it.
I also see it as something I would have to pull out when I do the annual state inspection. It looks like An inspection no-no. I also think it would fit perfectly in the space of the factory airbox. I could also get another airbox and hide it in there.
BTW, that supercharger in the photo was a pull from an aircraft engine.
