Well, I guess if I had thought about I would have remembered that Defenders (except the NAS 110) don't come through with a pressure guage, elec or not. But, the pressure switch which extinguishes the light on your cluster is located at an output gallery of the oil pump, so that is still where you'll pick up the point to install the fitting for the tubing to the new guage. The oil pump on the V8 is external to the engine and easy to see the tappings, and a plug, when removed, gives you another tapping, but I'm not familiar with the TDi engines enough to know exactly where your pressure switch is located. That said, I'm thinking it's on the right hand side of theengine, down low and about the middle. There will be a single wire connected to the pressure switch.
I'm not sure which guage you dug up, but if you can find the butterfly Smiths, take the electric water temp guage out of your panel and replace it with the butterfly, Then you'll have both Oil Pressure, and Water temp, giving reliable info, right smack in front of your nose.
