On the stock EAS system the shocks WERE NOT pumped with air. The air was pumped into the air bags that took the place of the traditional coil springs. The air bags WERE the springs. The shocks were the usual shocks with the main difference being that the front ones were mounted differently than in coil sprung Range Rovers. In all coil sprung Range Rovers from 1970-1993 the front shock was mounted within the coil spring. Obviously, with the use of air springs on the EAS equiped Rovers, this could not be accomplished so the shocks were moved slightly forward, outside the spring.
This is not to say that the front shocks on EAS equiped trucks are the same spec as the shocks on traditional coi sprung Range Rovers. I believe that Bilstein, as well as Land Rover, OME, ect, has a different part number for these shocks dependent on EAS or not.
RageRover, the EAS light is still illuminating on your dash because whoever removed the system never bothered to properly remove all the wiring. If the EAS was removed properly, as it would appears it has been on Andrew's, the light would not remain on. It's not a big deal but it is also not right that your EAS light is still on.
