Default Self Leveling Suspension Discovery 2, 2000

The SLS on our beautiful Discovery is broken. The suspension drops if you hit a bump or if you put any weight in the two back seats. The dealer here (a Caribbean country) says that there's a fault in the computer where the system is not getting enough power to cause the suspension to work properly. He suggests that we change it to a spring system. Apart from the expense, we know that the ride will be drastically different.

Please help us to analyze this. Could there be another way? This used to be a nice riding vehicle; now we can only take it on very smooth roads of which there are not many. When she is good she is very good but when she drops she's HORRIBLE.
