This is really NOT a recommended fix Sort it properly!

if you need to bodge the circuit to get you going then take a lead direct from the battery pos terminal into the brake light switch (take a look under the dash at the top of the brake pedal armature) then direct to the lamps, do not rely on a manual switch. If this doesnt work then it is the brake light switch that is at fault and replace it.
