Welcome to the land of Rovers.
A couple of thoughts regarding your whine.
T/case whine is pretty usual do to end play and general design of our t/cases, nothing to worry about though. You might consider changing the oil, even going a little heavier, like 80/90W sunthetic and add 1/2 bottle of Lucas oil suppliment, this will quiet it down some, also good for the diff services.
Not that it is causing a whine for you, but check the double cardon joints on the front drive shaft where it hooks to the t/case, can not be serviced cause they have no grease fittings, when they fail they take out the trannt case, get them changed out as soon as you can installing Spicer replacements with zerks.
When you get more used to it and if you want to do alot of wheeling get back to us and ask about converting your t/case back so you can use your CDL.
Good luck,
Mike
