Does your D2 have the ACE option on it?
The hydraulic pump for the ACE often has quite a high pitch whine to it also. Some folks here have suggested adding Lucas PAS leak stop the hydraulic fluid in this system, you could consider this if you have the this option. I'd try changing the fluid to Valvoline synthetic PAS fluid first or in addition to the Lucas addative.
