Last month's issue of popular mechanics had a large article on alternative fuels where it actually compared, the different types of alternative fuels in regards to milage, availabilty, wheater and their applications.
GM has a lot of ethanol vehicles out but I don't think there are too many sources. The article also showed that 1 gallon of ethanol has less range than 1 gallon of gas and 1 gallon of diesel far surpassed both gas and ethanol.
The 15% gas in ethanol is only supposed to keep the fuel from freezing, so these e85 cars are basically running on grain alcohol. The problem with a conversion to ethanol as I see it would be the seals. Alcohol is extremely good at degreasing things and does not mix will with rubber which a lot of seals are made out of. I dont' think it does too will with plastic either but silione will probably work well.
The best fuel as far as milage is concerned may be diesel or bio-diesel but in cold climates that could freeze and clog the fuel lines.
I think if you ran e-85 in a rover the engine or any gas car the effects migth not be too good..
