Because they are superior to the Land Rover for this environment. Parts are readily available, even at tiny outback cattle stations. The mechanics all have experience in toyotas. And there is no way I'm driving the thousands of outback miles that I want to, in a series 3, despite the fact that I am a fan of the car. The series 3 is great, but not up to the task this time. I'm looking forward to my Landcruiser, with it's 5 gears, and power steering, and nice big diesel engine.
