Disco 1, according to the literature, uses DOT 4 brake fluid. I was tempted to replace it with Silicone based fluid 2 years ago but chickened out. Some restoration people like the silicone fluid as it is non-hydroscopic but I have read that it boils at a lower temperature than regular (alcohol based?) fluid. Also, apparently some types of rubber seals don't like the silicone fluid - never had a problem myself. Was told that the military uses the silicone stuff, but have no idea if this is true. Stick to the DOT 4 regular stuff - I used Wagner fluid recently.
BTW, don't forget to replace the clutch fluid as well.
