I recently got a 1973 Series iii 109 2 door ExMOD 24v 2.25 petrol. I'm already in the middle of 2 88's and another 109 undergoing restorations, so i would rather let someone else enjoy this one. The frame is very solid with only rust on some of the outriggers, easy fix. The bulkhead is also solid...two tanks with a switch over. One tank is great, the other could use a good cleaning/sealing. All the glass is good shape...HD salisbury rear axle. Steel wheels with military tires. Needs paint, some has already been stripped. Could use a brake booster, I have one for it, and a good going over. For a 1973 its in good shape. Transmission shifts fine as does transfercase.

This is a great vehicle for those of you looking for an easy project. I hooked batteries up to it and it turned over perfect and all the lights/heater worked. I didn't,clean the tanks, carb and the put gas in it and try to run it, I don't have the time to. Everything indicates it will fire right up with a good cleaning. The previous owner said it ran flawless when it was parked. The price would go up if I cleaned the tanks and threw gas in it......
The previous owner used it on his farm in North Carolina and when he brought it down here 2 years ago he drove it a few times, found a 110 and then parked the 109. It's been covered for the past 2 years. It has a canvas top that's a bit tattered, spare tire mount hood, a new muffler was put on it before it was parked.

All in all it is a great truck that's easily worth the price. Clear Florida title in hand.
Asking $4500 obo.....I am interested in trades involving other Series rovers, especially 4 door models, and early 90's 110's in need of work. If you have something to trade shoot me an email with details. The rear seats do not go with vehicle unless sold for asking.

I can send pics to those interested...

I had the head gaskets done a year ago next month I was going to do them myself but life bit me in the a$$ so I shipped it. It was leaking then from the rear of the head but now I believe it's internal to the cylinder(s). It's not leaking anywhere outside but it will burn through a gallon every 60 miles, it's parked. The oil is clean and there are zero drops on the ground, I really thought consuming that much coolant would make a lot of white smoke but it doesn't at all. Although I haven't followed the vehicle while driving. I contacted the shop to see if they would redo the job and I'm waiting to hear back.

PT I will probably be calling you for parts.

I'm in the middle of a new head gasket job on my '03 D2, and was wondering what was acceptable to use to clean the mating surfaces for all of the gaskets, block, and heads.

I've used a plastic scraper to remove the remaining pieces of the gaskets from the head and block for the head gaskets, and have used a chlorine-free break cleaner to remove the rest of the grime and crap.

Is the break cleaner acceptable:dunno: Is this acceptable for the exterior of the crank cover, bolts, rods, etc?

Side note: I'm using Permatex blue thread sealer for the bolts, and High-Tack for the valley gasket.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks again for all the threads on gasket removal, they've helped a lot!

Could a Discovery I GEMS engine block be used in a Thor Discovery II?
Would the Thor EFI fit on the GEMS engine block?
Would the exhaust manifolds and Y pipe/cats/o2 sensors be a plug and play affair or cut-to-fit?
Would the trade work the other way, i.e. a Thor block in a DI with GEMS EFI?

Got a few dead Disco's sitting around, all with something or other terminally wrong and need to either part them out or get creative and make one or two runners from my stock pile.

Thanks for any clarification you can offer.

i have tried on a couple of these occasions holding it cranking for like 45 seconds to no avail....

It seems to do fine in the mornings or after she gets about an hour break from driving about town but mid-day (usually in the middle of shuttling kids from school to various after school sports) she craps out on me.

This truck has 168K miles and I have read here in other posts that the "crank shaft position sensor" is a suspect part that might lead to this....do my symptoms sound like they fit this issue?

Are there other typical parts that fail around this mileage that would cause a starting problem?

Is this a dealership only part or are there reliable sources that are less expensive?

:helpI'm having some issues that have randomly started all of the sudden. Need to get this thing inspected within the next two weeks and need to get this fixed.

here is what is going on...

Right turn signal functions properly.

Left turn signal seems to be grounding out and just blows a fuse. All dash lights dim in succession with the signal flashing for maybe 2 or 3 times, then the fuse blows.

If hazards are switched on, the dome lights flash!?!?! but the indicators do not. Also the little bulb inside of the red hazard switch/button does not illuminate.

I have checked all fuses in the dash, pulled the cover off the column and looked for any exposed wires that may be grounding the circuit out. Pulled the front and rear signals out and checked those wires as well. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to wiring, so any help would be appreciated.

I've seen some similar problems on here where people suggested it was a bad turn signal switch, but I want to know how to verify it before I drop cash on a new one.

Thanks, Brian

As you can see I'm reducing my collection of rovers. I have my other 72 rover posted on cl and this site as well. I have owned this rover since 08. I have plenty of pictures and video of this truck performing very well. Last year, I recently decided to take off the entire body and remove the 2.25 engine for a complete refresher. The old engine was removed and I had a new rebuilt 2.25 installed. The engine has less than 7K on the clock with high compression. After removing the body off the frame, i decided to strip the surface rust and prep the frame for restoration paint. The bulkhead is rust free. I recently installed a new rear cross member from rovers north. You will be able to see the step by step in the photos. I have plenty of pic and video to show the step by step project. I was able to complete the frame up and engine install in a timely manner. Soon after I prepared the body for paint with primer and the land rover poppy red color. I installed new tires 6 months ago. Still plenty of tread left. Runs VERY strong and shifts nice.. When I replaced the engine, I had to cut the down pipe from the manifold and replace with a flex pipe from the auto parts store. At the time I did not have one, but I have a new one now that will need to be installed. You will need to replace the passenger side rear brake line. New brakes cylinders all around last year. Interior is complete with working gauges. This was a project and you will need to complete my project such as connecting the new turn signal lights on the fenders, exchanging the exhaust down pipe from the manifold and install the new points and condenser. I recently removed the old set to install a new set and I'm not getting spark from the cap. But when I install the petornix from my other series, it starts up just fine. I will continue to work on my truck until it sells. I do not have a top but I have a rear door and rear side window frame that installs onto the roof that is included into the sale of the vehicle. I also have a hoop set and soft top we can discuss if you interested for an extra cost. I have plenty of pics, receipts and labor time spent on this truck..I have a clear florida title in hand. I have four of these trucks in great shape and I know what the market value current holds, so please no ridiculous offers, we are flexible..Im sure there are plenty of other goodies i forgot to mention on the truck..If you have any questions or need to see lots of pics, please feel free to contact me at 703-586-0207. Thank you.
