1. Flip the switch under the passenger seat (A)
2. Push the inhibitor switch (B) down
3. Jack up the rover to about 3 fingers above tire
4. Disconnect battery for 30seconds
5. Reconnect the battery
6. Flip switch (A)
7. Start rover
8. Push switch (B) up
9. Drop rover
10. All Done

Hope this helps......I'm no rover expert at all....just passing on information that may be useful to someone.....if anyone feels these steps are incorrect, please feel free to edit and repost.

Hi all!

Fellow LR junkie here. I have 2 different Series IIAs for sale up here in Vermont. One is my in town driver here in stowe. Has 46k original miles, 11k in receipts from last year from Rovers North and T. Coglenton Rovers for service, galv chassis etc. asking around 9k

I also have one ready for restoration with a new motor, galv chassis etc that another enthusiast got sidetracked on. Its really sweet. Asking around 7500. Otherwise might just part it out. Engine worth 3-4k alone and same with Chassis.

I have them both posted on craigslist and both are in Burlington VT area for viewing. I hate selling but by disco needs about 4k in upgrades and I have a 1995 Range Rover Classic LWB County that is awaiting the new 4.6L motor and transmission, a nice 10k investment. With a 6 month old kiddo and 2 under 10 that one needs to take the priority. The one i was holding to restore is killing me to let go, but hey, what can you do...

If you googles series IIA in vermont craigslist there are pictures there as well.

Best to all,

I thought I would post my experience so far with this cam as I have seen little information in regards on this forum.

It was purchased from D and D in Michigan so this cam has been slightly modified by Mark for our 4.0 Discovery motors. Obviously put in new lifters at the time of installation in addition to new timing chain.

I drove it for a 500 mile break in period. Used Rotella 15-40 during the break in period. Now that I am coming out of the break in period I have been pushing the vehicle more to see what the new set up is like.

Few things to consider before I comment. This engine has 200,000 miles on it, but the compression was tested before proceeding. Numbers came back in the 150's so I felt good about the investment. Also, when doing this I did the head gasket so the heads were machined slightly and new valves put in. I decided to do a little port and polish work on the heads as well(for better or worse). Last thing to mention, is that the ECU in the truck was sent to the Powerchip Group of California in the Fall of 2007 to be modified which has performed flawlessly over the years. This was the greatest area of concern for me as I proceeded with this after market cam.

Is my truck faster? The answer is no. This was not the point of doing this, I tow a trailer for thousands of miles every year and these engines need all the help they can get.

Has my idle changed? Again, no- runs very smooth very similar to the stock cam.

Did I get any codes? Happy to say, no. Also, passed emissions here in Utah a few weeks back with it in.

Did my gas mileage change? Too soon to be absolute, but looks about the same. I had a friend drive a route with me, mixed highway/in town driving with his laptop plugged into the computer so we were monitoring in real time. At 60 mph it registered a consistent 18.1 and at 75 mph it registered 17.2 mpg. When we got back it stated that we averaged 15.1 miles to the gallon. Towing is where its going to matter the most to me which in the past I have averaged 10.5 mpg towing my 5500 lb trailer/loaded. The best being 11.8 in Tennessee and the worse 8.6 in a headwind across South Dakota.

Has my power band changed? The answer is yes. In the negative, I would have to say, my off the line grunt is not quite what it was. This could be due to perhaps my messing with the heads possibly, also- a new torque converter that was reconditioned. I doubt that is it, but feel that is should be mentioned, but I believe its the cam. Again, this ECU is not stock, so I have my suspicions still in regards as perhaps the ECU and the cam are not totally jiving. After first "chipping" my truck my idle became smoother, gas mileage remained the same and had more power through out the usable power band. I never got use to first time passengers asking me "what does this truck have in it?" My truck has never been fast, but since chipping it and with just normal driving around town throttle, it would always suck you in your seat off of stop lights with little throttle given so the torque of the engine was immediately felt(this with 32 inch tires and stock gears).

In the positive, I would certainly say post 2600 RPM the engine certainly feels stronger and keeps pulling clear up passed 5000 RPM. Before, anything over mid 4000 RPM range was retarded. It had nothing to give. Now, driving these vehicles into the 5000 RPM range is silly, but I have to say, I was surprised to see it there.

The transmission does seem to shift better/crisper which has been a bit of a surprise- not sure why(new plugs, wires, valves, cam, exhaust-all the above). But that is a good bonus. Also, when driving down the freeway it does have somewhat of a more freight train like feel for lack of better words.

All things said, I want this engine to be the most happy in the mid 2000 RPM/low 3000 RPM range for towing my trailer. I feel that I have accomplished this. I say this, without having actually hooked up my trailer to it yet, but that is going to be done in the next couple of days so I will get back in regards.

With out a dyno there is nothing definitive, one thing I might say is that I have a hill on my street that I have to take everyday to get home. In the past, the truck would always gear down and hold until I crested the hill, now it shifts down and holds until about 3/4 up the hill and shifts back up- interesting.

So after all this time/money/effort I think it is producing good results, but not exceptional results. It has not curbed my desire for the 4:11 gear upgrade that I have been longing for, if anything else, I want the upgrade more.

Thought I would post a quick review for the Magnaflow high flow cats Y-pipe. As I know when I was considering the purchase, I could find little regards to this setup on line for our rovers.

I ordered it through Performance Peddler for what I consider a great price. It arrived in two days(I live in Utah).

It comes in two pieces and you slide the pipes together and it just tightens/clamps down with the turn of a bolt/nut.

It goes in real easy- probably easier than stock(no welding needed as well). It does not come with the two down pipe gaskets, I ordered those from Rovers North.

The fit is fantastic, maybe even better than stock and it all fits up out of the way which was the one thing I was concerned about as I have seen similar looking after market cats poking out below the frame to be struck while off-roading.

It is stainless so it should last a long time. Soon after installing it and driving it-it begins to turn a bronze color.

All the muffler shops I spoke with said that I might get a check engine light. When pulling it out of the box, I could see that the first hole(pre-cat) for the oxygen sensor on the driver side was further up the from cat than factory but all is well- no check engine light and it has passed emissions here in Utah.

As far as sound, it does change the sound of the exhaust. I cut my resonator off years ago and installed a Magnaflow muffler. It had always produced a nice mellow note with little drone. It now sounds more like how my dads 1972 Chevy 3/4 ton truck sounded growing up. Mixed feelings about it in that regard. There is still little drone if any, but I do feel a frequency vibration rattle my transmission shift lever a bit as it resonates up into the transmission tunnel. This is only when it has shifted into 4th at slow speeds around town and you give it a touch of gas.

In regards to power increases- cannot answer as I had installed a new cam, torque converter and had a valve job all done at the same time.

It certainly lets the exhaust flow better without question, when you first start in the morning it is really coming out of the tail pipe.

It's got pretty much all of the options (I think)...Nav, DVD Chagner in the rear, TV's in headrests, Cooler Box in center console, ...etc. My question is where is/would the ipod connection be located? I don't see it anywhere. I understand there's a ipod adapter cable available to purchase but I simply don't even know where to look to find out what it does/doesn't have. Any suggestions on where I need to look to find out if it even has an ipod connection? (or the cable that the ipod adapter connects to?)

PS-I currently use the aux input in the rear of the center console. I just would like to plug in 1 cord to my phone to charge and listen to music, not 2 every time, and I'd also love to use the steering wheel controls not look around for my phone everytime I want to change the music.

Thanks

Hey! I recently bought a Disco II 2001 for my first car, I have the locking Diff transfer case, just no means of actually engaging it. So, ive been looking around for the cdl linkages and they expensive, like 4-500$! so my question is do ALL 2004 discoveries have the CDL linkages in them? because if so i can have an ease of mind while buying one online. Also, if i cant seem to find a CDL locker from a Disco II would a DI be worth getting and modifying? AND one more question, if i do install this cdl from the 2004 or any Linkage, will i lose my traction control? I've heard it happen to people and some not?
Thanks in Advance!!!
