i'm a new to the forum and to Land Rover's in general. Lately i've been looking for an older Discovery to purchase but have always loved Defenders. There are 2 for sale in my neck of the woods and i just wanted to see what everyone thinks of them. One is a 4 door 110, manual and right hand drive. i believe the asking is price is $19K Canadian. The other is a 90, manual left hand drive and asking price is $15K.

most of my driving will be done in the city but i'd love to take the truck out in the back woods when the opportunity arises. I test drove the 90 but unfortunately didn't try the 110. I like the fact that the 110 has more space and a longer wheel base, the price is a deterrent along with the right hand drive though.

just wondering if anyone has thoughts on these two models and whether they may be a good buy or whether i should stick with a newer Discovery? Here are the links

300Tdi starts but no power when below freezing

Hi

before posting I had a good look through the forums and nobody seems to have had my exact problem...

I have a 110 Defender with a 300Tdi engine it has less than 20,000kms on the clock. It is an Ex-MOD model which was a satellite comms truck but was not used in anger.

The problem I am having is that when the temperature here in Canada drops below 0 C, the engine will start and idle OK, but as soon as I put my foot on the throttle the engine will rev up but then die away.(lots of white/grey smoke) After an hour of trying to get the thing going I did manage to get it to go but even at full throttle it is loosing power, maximum speed 90 kph.

Once the temperature gets above 0 C or I park it in a heated garage overnight it will run fine until it gets cold again.

I have changed the fuel filter and cleaned the sedimentor, no water found. I have checked the air system for obstructions and the turbo. No issues found.

One other clue is that despite lots and lots of hand pumping and bleeding air seems to be still in the fuel system.

My next thought is how to check for leaks in the fuel lines. No obvious leaks can be seen. What is the best way to do this?

Could it be something else. I am at the end of my tether and it is getting steadily colder here.:confused

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

D90 Idle problems after changing battery

My 1997 NAS D90 wagon sat unused for eight months while I was away. When I returned it ran and idled fine with a jump start, but the battery wouldn't hold a charge. I went to Autozone but they said they didn't have a battery for it. Took it to a local independent repair shop that works with Land Rovers and they put in a larger "commercial" battery. Now it starts fine but won't idle. I have to hold the brake and use some throttle or it will stall at traffic lights. Could this be due to an improper battery type? If not can I adjust the idle myself?

I put some fuel injector cleaner in with a tank of gas, but that didn't help.
