I want to see what you guys think it is before i take it to the dealer. Its on 05 Freelander. After a while of driving the (TC) lights up and the downhill light comes on. It drives the same if its on or off. When i turn off the car and turn it back on the lights stay on and once i put in gear the lights turn right off. Does any one know why it might be going on?

02 Freelander purchase, need advise

Hello, I found a 2002 Freelander with 58,000 miles on it, Timing belt broke and bent some valves, the owner had the heads machined and new valves have been installed. It is currently apart and I would need to put it back together. The owner has no time to deal with it.
My question is-- Is there anything that you could recommend during the reassembly of the engine that I could do to prevent any future issues. As I read in the fourms there seems to be a cooling issue with the engine, I looked on E-Bay for the Freelander cooling kit but non were found. Anything related I should look for please let me know. I have never worked on a LR but have rebuilt many engines and transmissions.

I have not purchased the car yet, but the price is very low. Its a real nice looking car almost new looking.

hi everyone,
i have always dreamed about owning a land rover and a year ago i finally was able to purchase a used 2004 freelander hse. i freaking love this thing. i know there are a lot of haters out there but the freelander is a great vehicle. anyways yesterday i was driving on a dirt road behind work and i didn't see this dip. i hit it going pretty slow but it still was a hard hit. jacked it up and saw no physical damage to the under belly. but when its in idle, i hear a deep hissing. it doesn't become louder if i step on the gas or just let it sit. its just constant. what did i do??? :dunno: i'm a college student who already invested too much. i need to know if anyone knows what could have happened. also did a fluids check and didm't see any irregularities.
thanks for who ever helps out

I know that the RR, RR Sport, and LR3/4's have the option to change the units in their trip computers (ie: km to miles, mpg to L/100Km) Is there anyway to change it for the LR2's? I have a 2009 LR2 and nothing is mentioned in the owner's manual...

Another thing...When locking the doors with the keyfob, I noticed there is no audible signal (beep or horn) Is this an option I can engage on my own, or would I have to take it into the dealership...or is it even possible at all?

Does anyone know anything about this? It would be a great help. Thanks!

Hellow everyone, I'm new on this forum, and hope to contribute as much as take. BUT, for now, I must take:-)

I own 2 freelanders, an 02 and 04 models. I really like them both and take great care of them.

My 02 is my "beater", meaning I really push it. I frequently use it on the eastern slopes of the sierra's 4 wheeling, in water, rocks, dirt, mud and snow and it has never failed me. In fact, I have a great story abouts its ability offroad. I was on a fishing trip, early July last year, and decided to drive up to Leavitt lake at the top of sonora pass on the 108. The 4 wheel trail ( an EASY trail, at that), was still partially snowed over. I decided to push it anyway. About two miles in, after a couple creek crossings, I came to a spot in the trail that had a fairly large snow bank crossing. On top of that snowbank was a dodge 3500 4 wheel drive rig. He had gotten stuck by attacking the bank straight on, and was bottomed out on center. The driver was busy shoviling around and under the truck when I asked if he needed a tow out. He just kinda looked at me as if he was thinking, "thanks pal, thats a cute little rig, but too small". I could see him trying to search for a polite way to ut it, and then decided to hell with it, I'll tow him anyway and proceeded to move my freelander in front of his rig ( to do this I needed to drive over the same snow drift he was stuck on), once in posistion, I took out the thick nylon tow straps I carry, and hooked his rig to mine...about this time his buddy was out video taping the show as he said " I have to get this on tape, its like an ant towing an elephant!". Well, puting about three feet of slack in the tow strap, I put the freelander in 1st gear and did a steady acceleration, using the strap as a sort of "rubberband" to "snap" his truck over the hump. A second later, smiling soo large his face looked frozen, the driver started to shake my hand, saying he would never have believed it if someone told him. Freelander -1, Dodge 3500 -0.

Anyway, the 02 recently started to overheat ( started, but never got hot, at least by dash indication) one day, so I pulled over and thought it might be just a cracked resevoir tank....I was in a drive thru getting lunch when it started to show steam...so I pulled over and had lunch while it cooled, then added water to get home ( about two blocks, never got hot)....saw bubbles in the resevoir, along with oil sludge...so, took it to a friends shop, we looked at it and both decided to pop the heads. I'm a Porsche Mechanic by trade, (building race cars and crewing them), so I was worried about the proceedure or tools. I did the job according to the manual, and now comes the question......./Will she hold? I have heard that once it blows, you can never get them sealed again. I made sure the cylinders never moved in the liners, check the deck on both banks of cylinders to assure proper height etc etc....just a little worried about them not sealing again.

Anyone know anything on this?

THanks!!!

Why would anyone get a Freelander?

2003 Catalytic Converter

I have a leak in a section after the catalytic converter and just after the oxygen sensor. I was told by my dealer that I need to replace the entire catalytic converter. The only problem is that they are currently on back order and he said there are none in the US.

I found a Benchmark CAT but it is for 2002 Freelander. Does anyone know if this will work? Or can anyone tell me where I can find one. I have been searching the internet for hours now.

Thanks!
