I have SWB Pajero and Range and i am very confused is to which car to take for long drive of 1500 km one way and it will run 4000km in 5 days. As per stability n road comfort wise Range is better, as per reliability Pajero is better. Both car is in pristine condition and following job has been carried out by me lately since i bought the car.

2000 Range Rover Autobiography (4.6 Engine with banana type manifold) with 110k KMS with EAS system still alive and kicking fine
New fully synth engine oil, new gear oil, new (3) diff oil, new coolant, new battery
3k run spark plug, plug wires and two ignition coil
Changed Crank position sensor, Cam shaft sensor, Evap sensor, Two relays for ignition and fuel system
It has rarely used Michellin tyres and good life on brake pads, and decent condition engine belt (1 no)
Been to two long drives of 200 km at speed of 140 and never had any overheating or other issues
In 5 months of ownership had only starting problem once which got fixed with relay, other than that Car runs and AC works brilliant

1999 SWB Pajero (3.5 Engine with 24 valve DOHC) with 139k kms
New fully synth engine oil, new gear oil, new (3) diff oil, new coolant, new battery
New 3 head NGK spark plug, plug wires and 3 ignition coil, new brake pads, Axle boots, ball joints, clutch fan
It has rarely used Cooper ATR tyres and decent condition engine belts (3 nos)
Been to three long drives of 100 km at speed of 140 and never had any overheating or other issues
In 2 months of ownership had only overheating in desert (only) issue which got fixed with clutch fan and AC works brilliant

For the benefit of those of us who like to punt their Sport off-road as the Landrover gods intended them to be used, I've starting posting a lot of our off-road adventures up on youtube.

We are generally out and about touring or belting about the bush with friends (both landrover and other generic brands) at least once a month and try to capture some of the highlights for each trip to share with fellow enthusiasts.

Drop by and have a squiz and please leave a comment if you feel so inclined.

For those in Australia, we'll hopefully see you at the Landrover Expo at Castle Hill on the 26th of this month and will hopefully have some more mods bolted on by then.

Cheers

Yesterday my wife has to drop me somewhere, and wait for me for around 15 - 20 mins in evening time. When i come back i saw temp needle dancing between two blue lines on right. It doesn't look like actual overheating. All the way back home (50km) temp and needle was fine (in center). Just for curiosity i done same test under my house in parking and after 20 mins (EXACTLY) again temp needle started dancing between two blue lines. What triggers here which react only at idle and after 20 min only. I own this car since 6 months and NEVER means NEVER temp gauge or car has overheated, even at 52 degree temp in daytime in June July in Dubai even at idling for more than 30 mins.

Is it ground issue?
Is it water temp sensor issue?
Or something else?

Or its me with black tongue, as same day few hrs prior to this incident i instructed my wife that whenever you leave car at idle for long, keep checking the temp gauge as any car overheat more at idling than running. Never knew my Rangie is so sensitive and can hear all this to show me same in less than 2 hrs time.

I own a 2006 Range Rover SPort HSE and have experienced recent issues with my car not starting. Initially this occurred when i turned the key and the engine did not start. I noticed that the AC, radio and other dash light indicators did come on. The car started on a second turn of the key. This same pattern continued for a couple of weeks. I took to a reputable Range Rover specialist who told me it definitely was not a battery issue but that he could not diagnose or repair the problem without replicating the problem I was having. This was somewhat of a surprising answer to me, but he continued by saying that he didn't want to charge me for installation of a new starter if that was not the issue.

Over the last couple of weeks the problem seemed to vanish but over the last 2 days, the issue has reappeared and is now taking 3, 4, 5 and sometimes more attempts to start the car before the engine actually comes on. I have noticed a slight "tic" when i turn the key and as before, the AC, radio and dash light indicators all power on although the engine does not.

Please let me know your recommendations and what you suggest I do. I feel it is a matter of time before I get stranded.

A main radiator hose burst and he didn't pull off the road in time...

So I have this great Black Land Rover, I always wanted it, but unfortunately he ruined it before I got it.

So my question is, should I attempt to replace the engine or just part it out?

I have never swapped an engine before, but I have plenty of experience elsewhere...

Thanks for any insight

If Eng. Is running on idle and I just touch the throttle pedal a few mm momentarily, engine revīs immediately to 1100 rpm then slowly to 1300 rpm for about 4 sec then goes back to normal.
If eng is running on idle and I push the throttle pedal just a few mm and hold it there, the engine immediately revīs up to approx 2000 rpm then slowly goes to approx 2400 rpm and stays until throttle is released. Then it goes back to 1100 rpm and after 4 sec back to normal idle.
If I disconnect idle contr. valve Idle works fine when engine is warm but stalls when cold.
I have changed idle control valve, Throttle pos. sensor and engine temp. sensor without luck.
Is there anyone who has an idea whatīs wrong????:help

Alternatively, given the price qouted I was contemplating a Chevy 5.7 engine swap but, then remembered I have a 3.9 Rover V8 in storage. So therein lies my question...can a 3.9 be dropped into P38, has anyone in the forum completed such a swap?
