I had the head gaskets done a year ago next month I was going to do them myself but life bit me in the a$$ so I shipped it. It was leaking then from the rear of the head but now I believe it's internal to the cylinder(s). It's not leaking anywhere outside but it will burn through a gallon every 60 miles, it's parked. The oil is clean and there are zero drops on the ground, I really thought consuming that much coolant would make a lot of white smoke but it doesn't at all. Although I haven't followed the vehicle while driving. I contacted the shop to see if they would redo the job and I'm waiting to hear back.

PT I will probably be calling you for parts.

I'm in the middle of a new head gasket job on my '03 D2, and was wondering what was acceptable to use to clean the mating surfaces for all of the gaskets, block, and heads.

I've used a plastic scraper to remove the remaining pieces of the gaskets from the head and block for the head gaskets, and have used a chlorine-free break cleaner to remove the rest of the grime and crap.

Is the break cleaner acceptable:dunno: Is this acceptable for the exterior of the crank cover, bolts, rods, etc?

Side note: I'm using Permatex blue thread sealer for the bolts, and High-Tack for the valley gasket.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks again for all the threads on gasket removal, they've helped a lot!

Talk me out of cutting my original harness and soldering/shrink wrapping the old harness to the new one please...... I am very comfortable soldering and wrapping wires and other electrical operations. Am I screwing up by even thinking of it?
Would the Thor EFI fit on the GEMS engine block?
Would the exhaust manifolds and Y pipe/cats/o2 sensors be a plug and play affair or cut-to-fit?
Would the trade work the other way, i.e. a Thor block in a DI with GEMS EFI?

Got a few dead Disco's sitting around, all with something or other terminally wrong and need to either part them out or get creative and make one or two runners from my stock pile.
Thanks for any clarification you can offer.

My 2002 D2 intermittently refuses to start. It seems to usually happen after having driven for a bit in the day...I hear the starter cranking strong but it just does not start up.

i have tried on a couple of these occasions holding it cranking for like 45 seconds to no avail....

It seems to do fine in the mornings or after she gets about an hour break from driving about town but mid-day (usually in the middle of shuttling kids from school to various after school sports) she craps out on me.

This truck has 168K miles and I have read here in other posts that the "crank shaft position sensor" is a suspect part that might lead to this....do my symptoms sound like they fit this issue?

Are there other typical parts that fail around this mileage that would cause a starting problem?

Is this a dealership only part or are there reliable sources that are less expensive?

:drink1:

Spent an hour removing the original hoses last night. They were stuck to the heater matrix pipes (where they protrude through the bulkhead). And by stuck, I mean it was as if they were glued (the rubber hoses had bonded to the pipes). I had to use a hose pick to remove them, and even then ended up shredding the ends of the hoses to remove them. It left behind a decent amount of rubber and residue stuck to the pipe ends. Any suggestions for removing the leftovers? Acetone? I tried a utility knife, but it's too easy to cut into the pipe. Any suggestions appreciated.

Can't remember the number but it said it had something to do with the coil or low fuel pressure or a couple other things. But my question is could both coils be bad since 3 and 7 are on two separate coils or do I have something else going on? I can't remember what brand wires or plugs are in there but the wires are blue....it looks like it was recently stream cleaned under the hood. We just bought it and we want to fix it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I found what looks like the motor and squirrel cage for $199. Can you take the assembly apart and just replace the motor and cage? I have to pay the dealer $105 for the diagnosis anyway. If I have to pay $400 for the part I might as well have them do the job. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
