HELP - need instructions on how to replace latch cable on passenger left door?????

I need help with the rear LH latch assembly (I am not referring to the tailgate door - which I know are problems too). My issue is the lock on the rear LH door does not work - the lock moves with the electronic system or you can move it manually, but either way the door nevers locks. Anyone can just pull on the handle outside and the door opens. I suspect the cable from the handle/lock is broken to the latch.

I removed the door panel and see that the cable runs through a very small hole (about a 1" diameter) to the latch on the end of the door. Problem is that I can not find anyway to access ther latch, if I were to remove the three bolts attaching it to the inner door.

The only idea I had was in the middle of the door (when panel removed) is a metal cover attached by 6 bolts (in the middle of the cover is the power window motor assembly). I removed the 6 bolts thinking the cover would remove and allow access to the latch. However when I removed the 6 bolts, the cover is still very tight??? I assume cause the window motor is still attached to the window/assembly in behind it?? So I removed the 3 screws attaching the motor assembly to the cover and the motor assembly is still tight - seems like the three plastic handle attachments are real secure - almost like they are attached from behind the cover??

Does anyone have any instructions or assistance on how the latch is accessed?

Thanks

Yakima Rack Whistle

This is under the tips and tricks category; I use a Yakima Rack on my LR3, landing pads, control towers and cross bars. The landing pads (4x) stay on the factory side rails, the towers/bars can be easily removed and stowed when not in use. The landing pads come with a clip on cover that fits over them when they are not in use - it's the covers that whistle, through a tiny gap between them and the pads.

To silent them simply cut a short length of low density weather strip (1/4 x 1/2 cross section) and stick it underneath the cover's leading and trailing edges.

No more whistle.

Land Rover service sucks; not willing to stand behind their quality (or lack of)

Had my 06 LR3 for a little over a year. The truck was very reliable until last month, when the truck just exceeded the warranty by a 1000 miles. I got suspension fault errors (the truck was basically a low-rider; no suspension what-so-ever) so I took the truck to the LR dealer for an inspection. They found the compressor was dead and quoted me about $1300 for the repair. Being that I was just over my warranty I asked if they could do anything (also being that I missed my last warranty service before it expired). The rep said he would check with the regional rep and said he would let me know the next day. Day came and went with no calls - called my rep and he said that the regional rep has not replied but I was told I would know the next day. This roller coaster went on for 8 days, basically leaving me hanging since the truck really was not drivable. After 8 days, I again called and this time complained why the national rep had not replied yet - sure enough I got a call back one hour later saying they would not assist me.

I called LR customer service, not because they refused the repair for free but more to complain that I was told the answer would take a day but rather took 8 days. I also was not impressed that on the day of the inspection I made an appointment the night before (and made the appointment) but they left me waiting over 3 hours to just check the truck over. Anyway, LR customer service sucks. They really did not care that I was left hanging and basically lied to - not even a sorry. They were also aware that these compressor are a common issue but were not willing to stand behind it.

Oh, also last week the f'ing tail gate door would not open. I'd hear the solenoid when the button was hit, but the window would not release from the hatch. Sure enough the cable attaching the solenoid to the hatch broke (do a search on google - this is almost as common as the cheap ass compressor used by LR). Anyways, dealer wanted $500 for the cable repair since it basically requires breakin into the back door by ripping apart the panel. In the end, I removed the panel without damage and was able to replace the cable myself (took 2 hours total).

Battery and Error Codes

Hello All,
I had my 05 LR3 serviced yesteday. I was having a couple of small issues (airbag light and occassional transmittion slippage) and an oil change. The mechanic (which was very good and honest) said there were about 10 different error messages when the rover was put through diagnostics. Long story short, i'm trying to verify two theories:
1. Can a low battery cause 10 different error codes? the battery is at 60% per the mechanic's reading....

2. Anyone know how to reset the computors if I were to change the battery instead of paying $250 for parts and labor?

I thought that when you disconnect the battery from the truck, the computers would reset automatically when a new battery was installed. Or does anyone indeed know if the computers need to be manually reset ?

I'm trying to get around dropping $250 for a battery, when i, being mechanically inclinded, can do it myself for the cost of the battery and a few coronas on saturday afternoon...

Gracias for the help!

New Lr3 Owner/is It Possible To Love Your Car Too Much?

OMG! I LOVE my new LR, 06 LR3. It is so perfect and what I always wanted. When I drive it I am smiling from ear to ear.

Problem is though, I feel very selfish when my dear husband (who surprised me with it) wants to drive it I worry over it more than I think I should. I LOVE this car and don't want anyone to touch it, ever!

Don't like my kids to eat in it, but do let my dog (who I also love too much) ride around and slobber all over it.

Think I have a problem or is this normal for a new owner of the best car on the road?

Hello: Does anyone know if gaiters are available for the air suspension elements on the LR3? These would seem helpful in providing a little protection for the pneumatic bits. Thank you. SWA

New Guy here with a hitch question.

I have a 2005 LR3, it's my 3rd Land Rover. For the most part, I am happy with it. That was until yesterday when I tried to put a hitch on and found that none of my current towing equipment fits.

After about 30 seconds of research, I discovered that my only option was to spend $400 for a quick hitch from LR. After deciding rather quickly that I wasn't going to do that, I called a buddy of mine who works in a steel plant.

He told me to give him some pictures and a detailed drawing of what I want and he would make it for me. The best part of all this is he will do it for a case of beer.

Here is my problem and my question. I want to make sure all I need is a hitch that will fit the current female part of my car. I am also interested in selling these to anyone who needs one once I see how they fit and perform. I am not interested in making a dime on these, I only want to cover cost and shipping once I determine if anyone is interested.

Is anyone interested. Remember, the cost will be his supplies, a case of beer for work and shipping. I can't imagine this will be more than $100. I am hoping he can knock out 10 or 12 at once and keep the cost low.

If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know.

This is my first post but I have been reading this board as well as few others and I know that alot of LR owners are not happy about the hitch situation. I mean 60k for a car and then they want $400 more for a hitch:dunno:

Any input is appreciates.

LOST my only Key/Fob

My poor 2005 LR3 HSE has been sitting in front of my house for 4 days now because I lost my only set of keys while riding around on my motorcycle.

I found a blank key blade on ebay for $12 and I also found some used FOB's for less then $30.
I also found new FOB's for $80.
However - I am finding lots of conflicting information - some threads are saying that once a FOB is programed for a vehicle, it cannot be re-programmed for a different truck.

In addition, I am seeing threads that say the ONLY place to get a blank key cut is at the factory in England.

The nearest Land Rover dealership is over 120 miles away from my home...I called them and they told me it would be close to $350 and that i would need to get my truck towed to their dealership.

I am finding it hard to believe the only place to get a key cut is at the factory in England. Also - is there special equiptment needed to program (or RE-PROGRAM) a FOB - which is why a stealership has to do it?

So the other day I start to get a "Hood Open" message on the screen while driving. I hadn't been under the hood for quite some time. So I unlatch, open and close it a few times, the message remains??? I am guessing a sensor died but does anyone have any experience with this? It is still under warranty so I will probably have the dealer handle it next time it is in for service. But I thought that was a weird fault. Otherwise I haven't had any issues.
