Came w/fresh paint, new bridgestone A/T tires and all new emblems. Looks awesome, dark green in color without a scratch on it. Will post pics monday, left my camera at home. I am loving it so far except the darn radio is broken, looking for best suggestion.......:dunno:

I notice with my other cars that the main command center usually tells shit thats not even that important. So is my key battery low or is it just screwing with me? I just changed it too...

We have two 1992 RRC's. On one, the PO had a problem w/ the sticking ignition / steering lock and disassembled everything except the switch itself. On the other, the entire functional ignition switch / lock is in place. I want to install the working complete switch into the other Range Rover, but how do you get the switch / lock assembly apart? Do you need to remove the steering wheel? I have the plastic shroud removed on both now. Please help.

Is there anyway to turn off the SRS light off? I don't care for airbags and it doesn't really matter to me if they work. Another weird thing has been happening lately. I was under my hood the other night, cleaning out the throttle body and I saw a hose that lead to the cruise control actuator and it was unplugged. I plugged it in just to see if my cruise control would work. I get in my car start driving down the road and push the cruise control button and my starter starts going. I turned off the cruise control and the starter was still going. I put my car in neutral and the noise stopped but now it does it every time the cruise control button is pushed and I unplugged the hose but I don't see how a vacuum hose could have effected the starter. I've pushed the cruise control many times since I've owned the car just wishing it would work without me having to do any work but it's never done this before. I figure a ground wire or something? it's really weird.

...or instrument panel. Whatever you want to call it. I'm looking to replace my dash lights because some of them have burnt out. I've been trying to find them at my local auto parts store, but I don't know which bulb it is exactly. I know I replaced them one time but they were slightly too small. I know on Atlantic British they would have it, does anyone know which bulb that would be? Thanks!

Hi

I was wondering, if there is an AUX entrance in a Range Rover 04?
I have looked for it, but have not ben able to find it.
Some BMW's from 04 have an AUX entrance, so I thought that maybe mine had one too.

I hope someone have the answer!

Thanks

Alternator & Tachometer Question

Just picked up 'new' '92 RRC. It has a new Bosch alternator installed by the PO to fix a charging problem. Installing the alternator did not fix the problem for the PO. We also have another '92 RRC which has a junk engine, and we will use it as a parts vehicle to get this one in top shape. So I took both alternators out. First of all, the new 'Bosch' alternator, despite having a Bosch sticker on it and coming in a Bosch box, is exactly the same as the original Lucas on our parts truck. (Maybe Bosch remanufactures these?) Anyway, I found out a few issues when comparing the two. First off, the new truck has the large power wire, a small brown wire (I think for the dummy light), and one white / gray wire which went to a connection on the back and then had another wire split off from that but it was cut off. (I think this is the tach wire). On our old truck, we had these connections but there are two small black boxes screwed into the bottom of the alt and a blue wire comes off each: one goes to another connection on the back of the alternator and the other connects to the cut-off white wire. So I added these black boxes and spliced the connection on the white wire connector, and right off the battery is charging properly again! But what are the black boxes, and how are they responsible for making the car charge when it otherwise wouldn't? Previous to making these connections, the tach would mostly remain at zero, but occasionally jump up to 4 or 6 then fall back to zero. Now it sits at zero at idle but when accelerating it reads linearly as it should. Bad connection, loose belt, or something else? I do get some belt squeal at low RPM's but the belt seems tight, maybe the PS pump isn't tight enough?

Alternator wire

Wow, what a week! I just fixed an exhaust problem last Sunday, then my alternator (Bosch) went south this past week taking the power wire from the alternator and the starter solenoid (stuck in on position), and possibly the battery and stereo with it. At the same time the high pressure power steering hose (3 years old) burst, and the exhaust on the opposite side broke loose.

So...

I'm trying to trace down the main power wire from the alternator in my 1993 RRC SWB so I can replace it. It seems to come off of the alternator and into a plastic loom with several small (possibly single strand) wires. I've traced it to the firewall where there is a thick pad between the engine and the actual firewall preventing me from seeing anything there. I don't want to start tugging on stuff for fear of breaking one of the small wires, but it appears to go behind the engine on the intake side of the passenger side head and wrap around the back of the head to the starter. I've heard about a junction stud where a wire from the starter and the one from the alternator meet. Is this standard, or would my '93 go straight to the starter?

Thanks,

James
