Thats pretty silly since a Disco 1 is really just a Defender 100 with nicer trim. Same drivetrain and suspension. Defenders are expensive here because they are rare. The 110 was only brought it in 1993 and only 500 units. The 90 was only imported in 1994, 1995 and 1997 and never in large numbers

Default Best 4x4xfar

Just out of interest but off the topic, what will my rig cost there. 1994 Defender 300TDi Hi-Line.
Full house with more than $3k (ZAR30k) of extras. Immaculate condition,
250 000km's (not miles) on the clock. See my gallery pictures. I am busy fitting a new 4.6 Rover V8 engine with Disco V8 gearbox and clutch.

yea, it would def. be nice to be able to get decent defenders here with out spending loads of cash. but if money wasn't an issue i would have to diss rovers altogether (sorry guys) and get an lm002, lamborghini.. 180 mph anywhere you want to go. haha..

i know you're kidding, but try finding offroad tires that will handle those speeds. good luck.

Because Defenders were sold in very small numbers over here and we literally trip over Discos. Where I'm from, they're almost as common as Ford F150s.

Cool

Fascinating all...really.

But having had all of the above, and then some. Every one of you have forgotten the obvious. A Defender is nothing more that a Classic or Series 1 Disco that is 10 inches shorter and doesn't have ABS!

Disco and Classic are both 100 inch wheelbase, which has been proven time and again to be darn near the best length to have for all around off road antics!

These three vehicles share almost every part below the door sills, and are all just as capable as the other. I use the term "capable" with my tongue stuck squarely in cheek! None of these cars has the power to pull a dead man out of bed if they get in a crunch and are loaded. Which is why every time I build a Rover for off road it gets a heart/lung transplant. And I promise you it wasn't to the anemic 300 TDI.

Rovers are excellent vehicles if you keep your head about you, understand their limits, and don't try to exceed them. Let the car work for you, it can be very forgiving and can make the worst knucklehead look like an accomplished off roader.

Sign yourself up for one of the excellent off road schools that are available. After you complete one you will be amazed at how much you have learned about your vehicle and what it is capable of.

I know it may sound like I'm ragging on the Rover, but I'm not. Over the years my guys and I built some serious gorillas that had the Green Oval on the back.
I just don't want to see this turn into a Ford vs Chevy kind of thing, and instead offer the newer Rover nuts to learn without getting turned off, if you know what I mean.
