Default Is BLACK a rare color for Defender 90?

<IMG SRC"http://www.row.org/raffle/images2/mainphoto.jpg">

I am not sure if I have posted the picture correctly but I had someone tell me that black is a rare color to find a Defender 90 in. Is this true? I would be suprised because I found a black D90 being raffled by a non-profit on the web.

www.row.org
(click on the flashing button that says "Win A Truck")

If this vehicle is a rare color, then why are there only 300 tickets being sold? It would almost seem worth it to buy all 300 tickets to get this thing.

Has anyone seen anything like this? I would love to find some more black Land Rovers being raffled off.

I can't recall the last time I saw a black one, if ever. It could have been repainted too... but no way it's worth buying $30K in tickets for a truck worth maybe $20K.

In 1994 there was a limited edition D90 that was Beluga Black. I think they made 250-300 of em. They also had leather on the seats and I think that's about it. I've only seen a handful of them but I'm sure there are also some 95, 96 and 97 D90's that the owners had painted black on their own.

There are some black ones- but not 250-300 I don't think since most years there weren't very many D-90's to start with.

Default Defender Production

There were 6577 Defenders imported by LRNA between 1992 ('93 Model year 110s) and 11/98 ('97 model year D90s)
I believe Dave is close, I think it was about 200 Beluga Black D90s (Obviously, not D110s, except the black one made for 'whatsername', the actress, Meg Ryan. wasn't it?)

200 sounds about right- I think I've only seen one that I can remember, there was one we put a 4.6 in at work.

Default Is black a rare color?

Yes and no.
Yes, because there were fewer than 7000 Defender 90's imported to the US from '94-'97 (there were none imported for the '96 model year). When you consider how many total Defenders have been produced ever, you can say that all NAS Defenders are rare regardless of color.
No, because the black ones were sold every year that D90 were imported.

There were 100 "limited edition" black D90's that came at the end of the '94 model run. They had the upgraded R380 transmissions, leather seats, and some chrome options.
'95 and '97 also had black D90's. Along with the AA Yellow Defenders, the black never appeared in a SW version, soft-top only.

Anything else?

A black 110 would be either a respray or a greymarket. If it had an exterior full length SD cage I'd go with respray.

Given that S3 Guy is just outside of London, I think it's not unusual his guy has a beluga black TD5 110

Sorry to be unclear. My comments refer to the North American Spec (NAS) Defenders only.

Oh, yeah. Forgot they had LRs in England as well.

Now IF that beluga black Td5 was in the US....THEN it'd be a respray...and I'd be coveting thy neighbors engine.

I saw one for sale in Mass - 1997 Land Rover Defender $31,975.

Just an FYI if anyone is interested.
