I have a Defender TD5 110 Hard top 2000. Two days ago I tried to fit a new stereo using the previous owners wiring loom. A fuse blew(under the drivers seat marked HAZ INT L.P RADIO) I replaced the fuse, stereo did not work. I checked the earth with voltmeter and earth in loom was not 'active'. I found a nearby wire (the earth wire from rear cabin light) I later realised this light took its live from the ignition. The stereo worked fine...but the engine did not start! I have ignition power but starter motor wont engage. After carefully studying TD5 electrical circuit diagram I live wired first the starter then later the output of the starter motor relay (which goes directly to starter). Both times the engine turned over but after 5 seconds seemed to have no fuel. Everything else seems to work fine. My best guess is that the ignition is buggered or that the ECM is fried. They would both explain the two problems I have. Can anybody offer any ideas, suggestions or advice as to what I can do to get moving again. If not it will have to be an expensive visit to Land Rover garage to get a diagnostics. Are there any tests I can do? Any help greatly appreciated! ps happy new year |
