Default Can you get a new defender in USA?

I've got a 94 defender 90. But I'd really like to get a new 2011-2012 defender 110. I live in Alabama, is it possible to get one shipped here? I've got enough to order one, but i just dont know if its legal to get one here. Or i think i may have heard to get it shipped somewhere like Miami and go pick it up?

they sell them at land rover mecico city, starting at 57,500 usd. Pretty sure its illegal to bring them in to the country without converting them to north american specifications (NAS), probably easier bringing 60grand worth of blow in. You can import a vehicle from the uk if its 25 years old, or you can pay to have a new one converted to u.s. regulations. Good luck! Let me know if you go the coke mule route.

There are dealerships in the uk that specialize in new defenders ready to ship to the us, expect to pay well over 100,000 when its all said and done.

What would they have to do to have it converted to a NAS specification? And where would you have it done?

Its mainly safety and emissions, like I said theres dealers in england that do the conversion before they export them. If youre going to our amigos to the south I would have no idea. Call the dealership in Mexico, they will more than likely have a gringo on the sales staff.

If you set a mexican rental agency and get mexican insurance on it then it can be driven in the usa.

Yes, you can-if you have deep enough pockets. The DOT/NHTSA has a list of approved importers who can "federalize" one for you.

Expect to pay the purchase price again for this service and don't expect to get a diesel in the US legally. There are no recent manufacture Land Rover diesel engines that can be legally imported.

And there is no such thing as a petrol defender anymore. You might be able to get away with a 4BD1 powered rover, getting a genuine one will be expensive and there is no such thing as a new one although plenty of conversions done.

Given Rover's propensity to build what is ordered, I suspect one could get just about any engine in a Defender-if you had deep enough pockets.

There is a local company to birmingham that has em for about 90K titled as 84' models.

I wouldn't get within 100 feet of one of those trucks.

If only there was a way to have it converted to NAS and some how keep the diesel. Then once you get it registered where you live (depending if you have emissions testing or not) put the diesel back in it.
