Default defender Brake Lights won't work

The master light switch on my wife's 2004 Defender 110 shorted out three weeks ago. Just before replacing the master light switch I also noticed that the brake lights did not work - I thought that there might be a link/connection. I replaced the master light switch and noticed that the brake lights still did not work. Today I took the brake light switch off my wife's Defender and put it on my 2004 Defender 90. The switch worked. I have have checked the bulbs and they appear to be good -does anyone have idea as to what is the problem? Is there any possible connection between replacing the master light switch and the break lights not working? Does anyone have any idea? Thanks in advance

boy do I feel stupid - after mulling over the problem, I finally took my voltmeter and stared checking the entire system to ensure that I had current running across the ignition switch, through the brake switch and then finally to the brake lights themselves. Long story made short - the problem all along was faulty light sockets.
