Default Defender Paint

I want to restore faded paint on a 94 Defender. What kind of paint is on this truck so I can select the correct products. Is it a two part (base coat - clear coat)? What products have others used with success?

base coat-clear coat is NOT two part paint. What's on your 90 is 3 part:
Base color-reducer-hardener.
there was no clear coat put on any of the '94 colors, just the later metalics (post '01)

Thanks TerryS for the info, would the hardener respond to machine polish the way clear coat would? or do I need to seek out special products? I appreciate any insight you have on this.

You can machine polish after about 2 weeks, given that you use a finest compound. I would recommend at least a month of curing time before any aggressive polishing. If you want a clear coat on top of the base coat, that's your choice, but if you do any amount of off-roading where scratches are likely, it is much easier to paint on top of a finish that does NOT have a clear coat on it.
