Default Diff lock light and Fuel Filter..

Hey PPl..

I am a newbie here!

I own a Defender Tomb Raider Edition TD5 2001. and i have a few questions..

My diff lock light doesnt come on altho the diff lock works 100%.. i took the wires off the light switch in the transfer box and connected them together and the light went on.. so i suppose that switch is faulty.. its in a veryy tight location so can it be changed with the transfer box in the car??

Secondly... i wanna change fuel filter on my car... i know my cars and tech stuff reallly well... is the change a simple filter change?? or do i have to watch out for sumthing?? Will i have to bleed the fuel system? how?

CHEERSS!!

If memory serves you'll have to bleed the fuel system after the fuel filter change.

Also I hate you for having such a sweet rig

Welcome to the asylum and on your rig we demand pics.

Do you have a real tombraider (hi cap pick up, roll cage, no roof and no door tops in dark metalic grey) or the black 110 with a roof rack and spot lights?

Sorry to ask a stupid question but I;ve never seen anyone with a real tomb raider and I really want to Its just not the most usefull vehicle since there is no roof on it.

Are you sure you need to blead the system for the fuel filler change? I;ve never looked at a TD5 but on my 1985 90 its so easy. Just undo the hose clip that holds the tank filler hose to the inside of the filler, undo 4 bolts, swap them over and do up the bolts and hose clip. done! Damn Td5s wayto new fangled for my liking :P

Hi raider
you don't need to bleed just unscrew and replace it's that simple you may need to reprime sometime you do some times you don't this can be found in the owners hand book.

Yeah the diff lock switch may not be being bushed when you engage. easy way to test is by trying the above. the switch can be set at different lengths by screwing a little bit more it may work it's worth a shot.

the serpentine belt has a variety of lenghts, they are to depending on things such as no air con, factory air con and non factory air con. what catogory do you fit in to. Rovers north has a good parts list that gives you part numbers.

colour codes from memory can be found on the a plate in the engine bay but can't rember for sure.

Here is the procedure for repriming if you need it easirer than looking
Td5 diesel engine vehicles
In the case of Td5 vehicles, carry out the
following procedure:
1. Turn off the starter switch and wait for 15
seconds.
2. Turn the starter key to position ’II’ and
wait for 30 seconds.
3. Turn off the starter switch.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 six times.
4. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
5. Keeping the pedal depressed, start
cranking the engine.
6. Continue cranking the engine and as soon
as the engine is running on all cylinders,
ease the accelerator pedal back to
approximately halfway through its travel,
and release the starter key. The engine
should now be running.
7. If the engine fails to start, repeat the
process.
During the above procedure, the fuel pump
will be heard to operate (priming the engine).
This noise is not a cause for concern.
