Hi guys this is my first post.I have a 110 CSW with radio and couple of speakers under the 2nd row seats. The question is has anyone tried fitting speakers to the headlining above the sun visor? I was thinking it would be better as sound is near so volume can stay lower. Also it will stop me smashing the speakers when I fold the seats forward and load the back. Thanks in advance Vinnie |

I fitted a couple of heafty 6x9s in the headlining but when off road the passenger would be thrown from their seats and bash their heads. I'm sure if you fitted smaller speakers they would be ok though. The head lining did droop down a bit with the weight but nothing too bad. I also had to put some padding foam on the back of the magnet of the speaker and but it up agains the roof otherwise they bounced in the head lining and made a noice.
In the end I binned the head lining all together and mounted some box speakers begind the bulkhead.

I stuck my front speakers in the door panels. Milled the mounting rings to match the door panel contour. Still and all, at highway speeds, you can't hear squat unless it's cranked way up. I find headphones more practical. A good stereo in a Defender is about as useful as tits on a bull.

I get up to the sills pretty regularly, but have gotten tired of changing starters. When I was in the Merchant Marines we used to say 'Useless as reading glasses on a wharf rat. Sounded pretty funny back then, but then we used to laugh at everything (too much diesel fumes) Actually I did put 2 3" speakers up in the headliner, off to the side, for some coms equipment. |
