It may say 7 months getting it legalized, but I still don't understand how they would do it. If it's true, then somebody is going to be the owner of a kick-ass machine!

What something costs in a country where the product is avaliable doesn't mean so much in a country where it can't be had.
A good Romeo & Juliet costs $3.00 in Havana, but most Americanos are happy to pay $20
Well if he wanted 70k he came up just a bit short at 50k

thats true I'm just in shock for the amount of money that people are willing to spend for a used defender, although def are well worth it, but still to much money for a Landy at least for me that is.
I will post some pictures by the end of october of some 2007 defenders with mods that are going to be shown at a car show by the land rover dealer...

to each there own..... seriously who the F* cares if it's grey, purple or pink market. If the market bears that much dough for a rover that's not going to be able to registered here, more power to them. With enough cash you can get anything in the country and pay any state registry worker off to look the other way. Oh, but it could get impounded and crushed. I'd love to hear any actual, true story where that happened. I think and hope the goverment has more to do then patrol defenders coming into the country. Cool rig though!
yes. they are all titled as 1999 or 1997 land rover defenders and they have all the dot stamping and release paperwork. the sad part is that dec 31st of 2006 was the last day that i could bring anything over a 1997 into the US. i still have 1 1999 d110 td5 that i'm driving and i have 3 d110 300tdi's that i will sell in the future. im going to germany next month to buy more cars if anyone needs anything let me know.
How many have you brought in that were successfully registered in other states? Has anyone in California registered it there? I ask because I have met two people who have bought Gray Market 110s like yours from other states and tried to register them in CA. They both failed...
that was my 99 d110 td5 on ebay it is ledal and i have a few more.
WHAT!
How is that possible. Please explaine. Last time i looked at the import laws the only way to do it was if its a 93 110 and made to conform to the US spec 110 via an ICI.
Please tell me how you do it, because i dont believe you.

Please Guys, If the guy says it's a legal truck, Why the hell can't you just leave it at that? There are a few of you who have never posted a single valuable item, other than to continually report back all the "suspicious" trucks you have found. You seem to have a 'conspiracy theory' crisis going on.
If you would spend a little more time cruising the internet than just going to a few NHTSA paragraphs, you will find there are several Registered Importers who have been contracted by clients and have done what ever an individual examiner required for signoff. There may be 2 shady imports for every leagal one, but there are at least 6 of the many dozen importers (RIs) with experience importing Land Rovers.
The particular truck that got this thread going has been around for a couple years, been seen by plenty who get out from behind their monitors occassionally, and if I'm not mistaken was only about 20 miles north of me for a while. (Not to mention an additional half dozen right here in CT)
Here's a news flash: The Federal Register is usually up to date, within a week. The websites of most government agencies are updated about 3 to 4times a year, at best.
no. i can bring in 1995 tdi discos but they are hard to find. and if i find one it cost me 2500 to get it back to the us and anywhere between 3000 to 10000 to get it through dot and epa customs. im in germany now and im having the hardest time finding good cars to bring back. the worst part right now is the exchange rate from euro to us its $1.00 equals.67euro!!!!! panamadisco was right, you can buy a new -07 defender110 for 45000 to 48000 euro, but thats around 70000 to 75000 us dollars and thats before you ship it or try to run it through customs which you couldnt get it through anyway and if you could you would have to spend around 14000 to 17000 to get it to pass epa and dot.
thank you terry. that says it all. if any of you dreamers would like to purchase one i have a few in stock and they are ALL LEGAL.
Ok,
I still dont believe you.
If people who work for the government cant find a way around the law, i cant believe that you can.
Lets contact the EPA and NTHSA and ask, as a mater of fact i will.
Sorry, but if what i think is going on is going on some one will eventually get screwed hard and i hope its not the unassuming "Rover Enthusist" who gets a 2nd mortage on his house to buy a 110 of his dreams.

Leaving the question of legality aside for the moment, hailing from England and having grown up around Rovers in the UK it just makes my eyes water to hear what folks in the US are willing to pay for a 9 year old 110 station wagon with a diesel. It may come as supprise (or not) to many that the hot Land Rover item in Europe are the NAS V8 Defenders.....ironic!

please refer to statement #12. there is nothing illegal at all. i cant help it that you cant get them in and im not about to explain the process. as for you not believing me, it really doesnt matter. if you want to mortgage your house and purchase one, i will give you all the dot and epa release paperwork along with a title. happy trails 2 u
