Welcome to the forum. You've bought the best year of Landrover ever made in my opinion I drive a 1985 90 and apart from the engine its the best thing Landrover made. I cant vouch for the Mazda engine but I but a 200tdi Discovery engine in mine and it makes a perfect package. How quick is it with that Mazda engine? Are you happy with it or might you look to put a newer Landrover engine in it?

When the engines that came with 1984 110 was usless, apart ffrom the V8 so as long as that Mazda engine is any good somone saved you the trouble of having to change the engine like I had to.

You;ve also got the best Doors landrover ever made. The slanty type slide windows. These are the windows that made it onto all British Army 90/110s and Defenders. They cost about 300 pounds each here in the UK!! I'm having to settle for a set of series 3 doors with the square sliding glass. Better than the one piece wind up windows but not as good as yours.

The L95 gear box is also pretty bomb proof. You might find your self searching for a 5th gear but that gear box should last for ever. If you are finding that its needing higher gearing, try some simple cheaper options before you buy an over drive. Firstly you could try putting on taller tyers. If is 1st gear feels well too short and almost pointless and its revving like crazy doing 60+ on the motorway then try putting 35 inch tyres onit. You might find yourself having to adjust the steering lock stops or even giving it a 2 inch raise (you could use spacers rather than springs and shocks if you are on a budget)to accomodate the tyres. But it has been known to put big tyres on a standard Landrover. With these big tyres on you will effectivly change your gearing. You will find it doesnt pull away quite so fast and you will use 1st gear more but you wont be revving it like crazy at high speed and you will use less fuel too. Only trouble is you will cause the speedo to read wrong slightly.

Also you could change the Diffs for a different ratio.

All this is assuming that its not a good engine to gear box match. I dont know, let us know how well it drives.

Looking at your hand break position it could do with adjusting too. Its way to high up. When you pull the hand break on it should only click a few times. It looks like its on about 8 or 9 clicks where it is. If you dont adjust it you might find it wanders off some time as the break shoes wear over time. Let me know if you want a walk through talk through of adjusting it.

You've got a lovley Landrover there and it will last for ever if you treat it right

thanks again-the truck is in hte uk and im in the usa-i cant import untill january-they say you can put in range rover high range gears to increase highway speed. This seems to be the most cost effective.lt95 Overdrives are really rare and I dont want to deal with the maintenence on it.Its nice to hear good stuff about those windows-I was partial to having rollup windows myself.

They are aluminium tops so they should last forever. Only the door bottom will corrode and you can pick them up for peanuts (even with postage and packing to the USA) The door bottom is just a late series 3 door bottom. If you really dont want them you could sell them for the same cost as a pair of brand new defender doors just about. Its up to you..

Last time I checked, you could import on the 25th birthday of the date of manufacture. So do some research, and you might not have to wait until January. But if I remember right, if the truck was built in 84', you have to wait until 25 from that month as well. So you could be bringing it in as soon as august, or as late as next august. Just .02. And if I remember correctly.

I think extremeMarine might be right about that I recall reading about that somewhere before.

You might go on discoweb.org and pm a guy named globallandrovers he imports for a living and he will probably answer that question for you.

hey hey hey.. dont you lot go raiding out spare part donor vehicles!!! I dont want to be having to import a landrover back from the US some day just so I can still own a defender. They will last far longer in certain parts of the states as they are constantly rained on here...

If it is by registration, you've got 11 months to save up, so don't be in a hurry. lol! But for reference on manufacture date, try a website called LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum (Powered by Invision Power Board). It's a UK enthusiast site, and they have forgot more about LR's than any of us over here will ever know.

You can get that info from the chassis number online I think. PM me your chassis number and I'll pass it to a guy who knows how to get those details.
