Hi all.
We have just had a snorkel fitted to our 2005 defender (pics in show it off section) by Land Rover from the options book. The thing is bloody huge, I have been looking on the internet at the likes of mantec or safari snorkels and they seem abit smaller, just wandering why the Land Rover product needs to be so big? Bit of a random question. ![]() ![]()

I have the same thing, but it enters through the top of the wing instead of the side.......it's a little more out of the way and not so obtrusive.
Very nice truck, though!!!!

Thanks! Yours looks like abit of a beast, what size V8's do the NAS specs have? We can only get diesel's over here! (2.5 litre)
Does yours go through the wing top because it is a V8 and thus the air intake is in a different place? Looks like abit of smaller snorkel in your avatar. Ours doesnt affect vision, but the top of the snorkel is huge and the "tube" is really thick, its the same design as the G4 Challenge one I think, all the same its rather large.

Hello and welcome to the forums Jolly. I am also UK based, up in Wales.
To answer your question the LR snorkel is in fact made by Mantec and it is that length because then it reaches up to the same height as a roof rack. If you do not like it that tall then just cut the tube by a couple of inches. Whatever you think looks right. Also we do have V8 90s in the UK, there was a special edition (called the 50th) bought out for the 50th anniversary of LR. If you are planning to go swimming in your defender then make sure you seal all air intake joints 100% and waterproof all your ECU electrics! Are you interested in off roading or green laning?

Thanks for that Info!
Well its not my 90, its my dads, i just drive it sometimes, so I'm afraid I dont get much say r.e off-roading it. I would certainly like to see it see some mud and water in its time, at the moment though he is fairly adament about keeping it on the tarmac I kinda like it that tall, but it does look rather large, what do you reckon to it? Is mantec a good make of snorkel, because to be honest at the moment it is just a piece of decoration lol. How big is the job of sealing ecu's and extending breathers? Yeh heard of the 50th bit of a brute aint it! However I quite like the td5, nice to drive I reckon. Would be nice to still have a v8 option though, with abit brisker perfomance! Cheers and sorry about all the Q's we have a Discovery II aswell, but this is out 1st Defender P.S I am interested in green laning and I think my dad would also enjoy doing this too providing it didnt do body damage
