Mine was not even medium rare compared to them, I only had to source a pair of wings, and a bonnet, though I gutted it inside and started fresh. |

What I paid is insignificant, and though it's nobody's business but my own, I will say I paid less than $6k. What matters is that I have over 400 Hours of labor, and well over $12K in new parts to get it back to new. (That is just to get it back to an 'as-sold when new' condition, and doesn't include suspension mods, ARB, winches and lights and other doodahs) It isn't necessarily true of many other cars, but in the case of a NAS110, this is the only way to go. I always disliked the plastic AC dash on 110s,(not to mention no scuttle vents) and wouldn't own one in that configuration, so this was the perfect opportunity to build one, using a new bulkhead, and ROW (rest of world) dash, similar to the D90. I passed up on others with higher milage, and the wait was worth it as this one had less than 60K on it. The AC is exactly the same as a D90, and I never installed it because it takes up too much room in the footwell, and for the few days it gets that hot around here, it isn't worth trading the room under the bonnet either.
It's got about 90k on it now, and begining to show it's age, but I have four factory fresh doors in the shop, just squeezing the last out of the old ones. I was about ready to drop the $ for a complete 300Tdi package from RN when reality hit, that A) I would never save enough on fuel to make it economically practical, and B) After building my own 4.2, I would never be happy with the performance of any diesel. The only drawback is only getting 350 miles to a tank, as opposed to over 600. I think I'll use the $ i was going to spend on a diesel on a new, change of color, paint job. I was initially thinking Conniston green, but I already used that color on a total restoration of our '71 2A (which I am completely bored with and is for sale) and really like Lincoln Green, a color we are using on my son's '83 Stage One 109 ( another reason I haven't hung the new doors is the uncertainty of what color they should be painted) |
