Default Michelin XCL's in winter

Just wondering what folks experiences are with these tyres in winter, especially in snow and on ice?

I used XCL's on my 90 pick up for a few years mainly on road and thought they were great. The odd time we had some snow they were absolutely brilliant, whether the snow was fresh or hard packed. Obviously grip was best in fresh snow, I never drove on ice but I can't imagine them being very good unless you got the studded type.My crowning glory was getting an artic moving again on a hill on hard packed snow, the driver didn't think my little 90 could do anything to help but my 2.5 diesel 90 towed him up the hill .
