Nice? what planet are you on???
pretty soon you wont need to go "offroad" as there will be an on board simulator !!! Defenders like the series are/were fine the way they were IMO I dont need/want all that bling! i want solid bull bars and proper bumpers that aint gonna cost an arm and a leg .bolt ons that i can adapt etc and how the hell are you gonna fix it in the field without the aid of a computer?????? Selling out to the "lifestyle offroad" (read supermarket carpark)ers if you ask me! |

I see your point....
Perhaps they should offer a special package that has these upgrades...Regardless, we just want somn like this here in the US!! It would be just great if we could get this diesel version, we could add everything else!!

My thoughts:
Engine- Ford Duratorq units seem pretty tough, and I like the sound of that power/torque spread- more torque than the Td5 available 400 rpm lower down the rev range, plus a variable-geometrey turbo to finally provide a bit of top-end power as well. In a perfect world it wouldn't have electronic injection control, but that is never going to happen. Transmission- I'm glad there's no Terrain Response (as yet??)- it's an excellent system in the Discovery/Range Rover, but should not be in a Defender. The 6-speed gearbox is long-overdue. Exterior- They've hardly changed anything, which is good. The bonnet bulge is hardly attractive, but then without it they'd have had to change the whole front end of the vehicle. It's a shame they've ditched the bulkhead vent flaps, which were a sort of utility Land Rover trademark, but it's not really a big issue. Interior- That whole centre console is out of the new Ford Transit. I saw nothing wrong with the old interior, but if they had to change it, I'd rather they took bits from the Transit (which is a commercial vehicle) than the Discovery (which is a semi-luxurious 4x4). It shows that they are still pitching the Defender at its core commercial/utility/military markets, in which it was starting to suffer in comparison to the new range of Japanese pick-ups like the L200 and the Navara. What I don't like about the interior is the new forward-facing rear seats. I know they had to do it because of European Union regs., but it changes the whole feel of the vehicle. They've nearly halved the seating capacity of the 90, from 7 to 4, and the 110 is now just a 7-seater, rather than 9 or (in the old days) 12. That's just the same as all the other 4x4s on the market. Previously, one of the big 'things' about Land Rovers was that you could squeeze the same number of people into a 90 as you could get in a LWB version of most other 4x4s. In general though, I still like it- they could have really messed it up if they wanted to/had been told to, but they've kept 85% of the old vehicle there. Still, I'll be hanging on to the old Ninety for a while it seems. Anyway, enough from me. Jack

I like it. I even like the color, but I don't see any air bags anywhere!
Let's face it. If land Rover doesn't do it. It will just be a matter of time until someone stumbles upon a TDV8 from an Range Rover or RRS that someone mis took for a sports car and BAM!!! Super Defender!!! And you know somewhere someone is already making a chip for it. Wishful thinking would say that the bump on the bonnet really was a mod to fit the TDV8 and the TDV4 is just a way of not letting the cat out of the bag. I'm also going to cash that lotto ticket. ![]()
