Gunny; That's a really interesting document. I was surprised to see that only a model year 97 D90 could be done, not all 94-97 Defenders. I would think that any year that was imported could have been legally imported/converted.

seems like your best route would be to get like an '82 Series III v8, bring it over as a classic car, restore it. it would be titled as a series, but you could make it look pretty much like a defender if you so desired, although I'd personally rather have a Series.

If your willing to spend the dough, get a perfect 1993 model from Copley Motorcars in Boston.
Or contact East Coast Rovers. They will re-build a perfect 1993 to your spec with the proper legal VIN. Import any parts you would like from the new model and have it installed to your taste and budget.

Buy, beg, borough or steal a Land Rover 110 body, Buy a legal registered Range Rover Classic LSE and fit afore mentioned body in place of the one on the Range Rover and hey presto, One legal 110.
Don't forget to fit the correct outriggers and rear bumper/chassis crossmember or you lose a lot of stuff in the first corner.

Do yourself a favour and just put a newer 4.6 into a discovery.
Listen, I have worked on both models american and european. They dont sell as well as the discoveries. And for good measure. They really suck to take offroading. The discovery one has the same approach angles and the same parts. The new one is more of a pain to drive then the old one. Its got cheap road tires, with a six speed transmission thats a pain to drive. First and reverse are next to each other. you get better stuff and you are safer in a discovery. Besides you need to go to a land rover dealer to get stuff diagnosed cause the systems there use IDS not testbook like the earlier models. Not to mention parts are a bitch and have to be sent over. The dealer will not have the tools if you need major work. Face it its a real bitch that will cost you in the long run.

It can be done. My brothers friend who has done more then well for himself and his father being a CEO for a major tobacco company, had his D90 imported. He was living in England after growing up in the states and was moving back to the states and brought the car back. It is costly to say the least. You could end up spending over a 100,000 grand easily. I would leave $200,000 in your back pocket to be on the safe side. In my opinion it would be nice but you could have 4 D90's with low miles and mint for that much money. The best D90 and D110 dealer around is Copley Motorcars: Information - Who We Are - Home. This is where my brother got his newest D90 which was a 94 with 13,000 miles. So nice ones are out there, you just need to look. These guys also work closely with ECR, who if i had 200,000 to spend, would get my D90 to rebuild
