Second AC?

Greetings yet again,

I am back with another issue from hot Honduras. Do any of you know if a rear AC is made for Defenders, or any unit that could be adapted to fit a Defender? The factory AC is only good in my 110 for the front passengers and a little for the middle seat. Forget those four in the very back about getting any air with the current setup. I looked on Rovers North, but did not find anything.

I have seen such a unit here, but it was used, and I have not heard where they can be purchased new.

Also...would it have to be mounted inside the truck, or on the roof rack?

It would not be too much of a problem to run A/C to the back of your truck. I would think you have a couple of options, one would be to install a used under dash style unit somewhere in the back of the truck that is convient and out of the way. The other option would be to install a roof mounted A/C unit.
Either way, all you would need to do is run a power line back to where the second unit will be mounted. You will also need to plumb in 2 freon lines back to the new unit. Install a dash mounted blower switch for the rear A/C and you are done.
As for finding one specifically made for a Rover, I don't think you'll find one. May want to visit a auto shop that installs aftermarket A/C's and see what they can offer.

On the contrary Mike, There is a rear AC unit specifically made for the Defender 110. It is not an aftermarket unit, but made by Land Rover.
Rovers Down South has had them often listed on their website.

Funny enough I have often thaught about fitting something for the rear of the 130 but but was unaware that LR made one. After much discussions with an AC Bloke what we came up with was the idea of getting a rear ac unit from a tarago small modifications to make it fit and the blower temp and power controlls are all built into the unit making it easy for the rear pasangers to controll everything. As was stated earlier all that was required was to run ac lines off the existing pipes with solenoids (so that when it's turned off the compressor is not pushing air through an unused ac circuit). The only concern that the guy had was if the standard ac compressor could handle the extra load but that is easily fixed with a larger compresor.
Just throwing in more ideas and it might be a cheaper option as you can get the old roof ac units from wreckers as well as the compressors(if needed).
