I'm going through the same thing... I almost bought a NAS 110 just because of the BS one must go through to import, but I can not justify spending 70k+ on an old truck with a 3.9... I looked into older trucks already imported and it's a mixed bag of parts, repair history and most times hack repairs and you're spending 10-15k for this? Old ones can be brought over but you are right back to the same price range when you figure shipping is 2-3k and another 2-3k for import duty tax, value tax, port fees, customs crap ect. I've seen a few older trucks repainted, new chassis and diesel conversions going for 30k+ and usually they are hacked too. poor masking on the paint work, jams aren't even done and paint on the seals. Interiors are missing parts or have broken items and the engine bay wiring and such is a disaster. Again, hack jobs done cheap hoping to make a few bucks because they are rare here.... After all of this I decided to look into importing a refurbished truck from a Land Rover specialist. This ensures a truck done right to begin with. There are many out there and the prices and services vary a little. All Defenders 25 years old or older are legal to import provided that not to much has been modified to make it no longer an old vehicle. Liveridge4x4 I am in talks with to refurbish a 110 to 300tdi specs, R380, rear disc brakes, stripped to chassis and rebuilt from the ground up, new paint, new interior ect. 30k.... So, for half the price of a NAS 110 you can have a truck in better condition with a diesel any way you want it. Otherwise, this is a service done in UK for anyone and not gouged for the US market...It's a fair deal at a good price. With that said, think about what you'd have into that rust bucket to get it where you'd want it. A 300tdi is easily a 8-10k job in this country by itself. The cheapest Land Rover you will own is the most expensive one you can afford because it will be in better shape to begin with.
