does anyone know if defender springs, would fit on a D1?

Yes, they are the same, they will also fit on Classics.

really? so they wouldn't effect ride quality or height?

my current springs are total garbage, who ever had the car before me really beat them up. nd i can no longer drive on them, its jus not safe.

Replacing your old springs will effect your ride height and ride, the height will be slightly taller depending on the springs you choose and the ride will be much better.

As for the question of color rings, can't say I have seem them, what brand of coils were they on?
Usually, as with OME's there will be a small white tag with the coil number and also on the front coils, they will usually mark which one goes on the drivers side.

the color coded markerings were on stock defenders. stock springs and stock shocks.
