Swapping Ring and Pinion Gears - Land Rovers Only

Does anyone know about swapping the Ring and Pinion gears for different ratios from other LR's in to a 99 defender. need to drop/raise (not sure what direction) the ratio as I am fitting larger tires and want to keep the gear ratio closer to stock.
