Ok, i have a tacho i want to fit to my 2000 Defender 130. It has 5 wires 2 for lighting 1 power 1 ground and 1 sense line (i think). However i am only used to hooking up tacho's that run of tacho generators (aircraft) or actual fixed line drives (tractors). so if anyone can help me on where to run the sense line to or if it would have a line installed already and would just need un stowing, or is this just simply not possible? any help would be most appreciated.

what make tach is it? If it is used, what did it come off of?
Some take their pulse from the negative side of the coil, Land Rover tachs take an impulse from one corner of the three phase line. (off the alternator) |

Ah ha you no doubt have a TD5 if you are in OZ! This is Lowetensions Tacho instructions for fitment to a TD5
I have a 200TDi and this very tacho and run it off of the "W-Terminal" on my alternator. Works a treat and handy when it sits next to a boost gauge!
