Default Which would you choose

Considering two extremes for my D90 purchase; a lower mileage (35k-60k) 1995 from Copley or a 1994 Soft-top with 70k miles from a private seller who is a Ranger Rover fanatic (has owned 5; has a D90 and a 110 awaiting resortating now) that has had EXTENSIVE mechanical restoration. He had receipts for ~$25k from the 4X4 Center in VT for items such as: new water pump, timing belt, new headers, stainless steel exhaust system, a new RXXX (i forget) transmission, new transfer case, arb air lockers and new axles, new radiator, etc. I looked hard and was unable to find any rust on this vehicle. So, the question is am I better off with a lower mileage Copley car or this vehicle. I realize there are other choices but this is just to keep it simple. We will probably drive this vehicle 6 months a year and put, maybe 6k miles/yr as it will be on the road and on the beach at a summer house. Obviously I would take the later D90 to the dealer for a thorough check unless someone has a suggestion in SW Connecticut. Thanks for the input

I've heard too many good things about Copley to tell you to go with the latter D90. Play it safe; go with the lower-mile rig from the certified dealer.

Less miles does not necessarily mean better. Personally, I'd go for the well maintained and documented truck. Sounds like it has some upgrades too(lockers, etc). 70K miles is just getting started on these trucks.

Timing belt? Is it a 200 or 300 Tdi diesel? Stock NAS trucks had V8s and timing chains.

Kevin Murphy lives in Ridgefield, and is service manager at the LR dealer in Larchmont. He's pretty knowledgeable.

I live in NW CT, and though I've never had a 90, have had a 110 for many years. There pretty similar in systems and faults.

Copley is pretty well known for high prices, but he does go for the low milage trucks. I personally don't put a whole lot of emphasis on milage.

Timing chain, sorry. Its the standard gas powered V8 engine. Ill call Kevin Murphy and have him check this D90 out for me. Thanks for your help.

go for the one with 70K, those options and the apparent care the vehicle has had make it a better choice.
