Most modern cars (to include LR2) can easily run on both 87 and premium fuel. However, if you run your LR2 on regular, you might not notice any detrimental effects, but your performance and mileage will suffer and it will negate any fuel cost savings. You won't damage anything, but why skimp on a $35-40,000 vehicle?
My philosophy has been to run each vehicle on the reccommended grade of gas as specified by the manufacturer. If you have to fill it w/ regular or premium once in a while b/c that's all that's available, no biggy.
