My daughter tells me that the dealer has told her that the "driveshaft will need replacement soon" and will be VERY SPENDY! Apparently this is due to some sort of a "pressed in bearing problem". The thing is, she is not very knowledgeable about automotive stuff and feels she is being "lied to" or jerked around by the dealer and she can't even tell me if it is the front or the rear drive shaft and she is about 2500 miles away from me at the moment....SO...can anyone on here tell me if the 2002 Freelander, 2.5 liter with a steptronic auto/manual transmission has some kind of a known driveshaft issue? If so, can I replace the bearings (bearings tend to be standard and if I can get at them, I can replace them maybe), or can I just install a later, maybe updated, driveshaft when I go to visit her in December? I would like to either change the "questionable" bearings, or, better yet, change the whole driveshaft to a newer, updated one if that is possible. when I go to see her, I will have access to a military auto craft shop so will be able to use some fairly specialized tools if needed. Any help will be appreciated and if you have an answer, you can email it to me at
