Hi,
I completed this project with a Garmin 2797, (2007 FL2 HSE) I had to trim the plastic up a little and it fitted snugly. I hot glued the unit in, no problem holding. I used an "add a circuit" fuse like the instructions only I mounted a dual cigarette lighter plug right at the back of the plastic on the passenger side, under the console. I did the same thing with the ground only I drilled a new little hole and scratched off the tiny bit of paint. Pleased to say it has worked perfectly and turns off with the car. The voice activation still works properly and it is plenty loud enough. The only other thing I did buy were plastic mould removing tools, they were a godsend.
A big thank you to fatherpippy for making this so easy! Half an hour's work..

Cheers

Also a big thanks to kjmass1, you provided the information for me to buy the tools I needed and the fuse tap etc. Great follow up kjmass1, thanks!
FYI, this model I bought for $279, a week later $249 Doh! (dick smith)
Anyways, working well and I have cookie monster voice, lol and TOPO maps :-D

Garmin 2797 install?

Read through the thread and am thinking of tackling this in my '12 LR2. I'd prefer to do it with the Garmin 2797 as brettieh did - just a newer unit than the 1700 and seems to be a similar size. Anyone else done this with the Garmin? Looking at it, it seems that the unit screen is somewhat bigger than the cubby. If you did it, did you lose a lot of screen behind the facia? Is that ever a problem? Thanks for any extra insight...

The fit is tight (internally) but the surround for the box fits the screen perfectly..
Looks like its meant to be. :-)

Hey guys i installed a Magellan Roadmate 9250T-LMB in Dec of 2012. I. Used fatherpippy's instructions and it came out nicely, however, i had a hard time connecting the cigarette charger to the fuse box. Can someone please give me "simple" yet "very detailed" instructions on how to do this, so that I wont't have to use the cigarette adapter and also prevent it from being visible too.

Has anyone installed one with a back-up camera and bluetooth/music to the speaker system?

I was thinking about something like this: Land Rover Freelander 2 Head Unit With GPS Navigation System : Aftermarket Navigation Car Stereo, Android Navigation DVD Player, Car Navigation Head Unit

Hello all, new member here. Hate to wake up a dead thread like this, but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for Garmin GPS models. I see the one suggested by 'brettieh', and it is a front runner at the moment - but was wondering if there were any others that had a perfect fit as well? Also, I see Garmin has a model with a backup camera that looks interesting - has anyone tried that one?

I plan to do this very soon for my 2010 LR2. If Land Rovers GPS is anything like other car manufacturers, this will be even better than having an original GPS.

Dash Cuddy

Hi, I know this is an old post but were you able to remove the cuddy where the GPS went by just removing screws? I am looking for just a cuddy in the dash. You wouldn't happen to still have yours would you? If so I would buy it off you!! My email is drbird123@hotmail.com

Thanks

Dan

Very nice work. I was considering having a shop in Manassas do an aftermarket but have now changed my mind. Did you look at any of the Garmin models in making your choice?

Thanks for the post. This is the best result I could have hoped for my 2011 LR2! If navigation is all you want, you can't go wrong following the instructions provided.
