Default adding hitch

I just recently purchased a near new 08 lr2 and am looking at what it would take to add a hitch, primarily for carrying bicycles but maybe more in the future.

I have been looking around and it seems like I need to get the Hitch Receiver kit installed. This kit is pretty expensive. I guess my question is, is that the case that I need the receiver? Or is there a way to install a hitch directly given that I wont be trailering anything?

TRAILER HITCH KIT - Exterior Accessories for Land Rovers & Range Rovers is this what you are referring to?

if you want to carry bikes you have 2 options, 1. you install this trailer hitch and buy a hitch mounted bike rack. (the more useful option considering then you could tow something down the road)

or 2. you could buy some Thule or Yakima cross bars with a bike rack mount and carry your bikes on your roof...

Yeah that is what I was thinking I would need to install. I am going up to the dealer tomorrow so ill get an estimate from them about what it would cost. I always expected on buying it I just didnt know I would be doing it so soon.

Is this the type of thing that is easily installed by myself or should I have it done professionally?
