Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a freelander for the wife to ride around in, but its about the only landrover I am not familiar with. The vehicle I've seen is on an R plate, its has a 2 litre diesel engine, now I understand that the TD4 is a good engine, but what about this one? or any infomation about this vintage of freelander would be great, what are the things I should be looking for when testing this little beast.
Many thanks in anticipation Bob. |

I don't know what R reg means - a year model is more relevant, however I think you are talking about the L series diesel - a great engine and the car is great - there is a design problem with the transfer case and viscous coupling - do a search and you will find a lot on this issue.

Sorry garrycol, the r, reg is a 1997 model, and from other post on other forums they all say much the same, to check the transmission and IRD unit properly. Thanks for the reply cheers Bob.
