Has anyone else had this problem...
Got a 2004 Freelander 2.5 V6... Over the weekend, the air conditioning unit just stopped working... In fact it's blowing hot air. Took it to the dealer today, and they can't say what's wrong with it. Actually, they indicated that there aren't faults when running a diagnostic, and that they can't get to re-charge it because it's not taking a charge. No of this makes sense to me, so just wondering if any of you had a similar problem... And were you able to get it fixed? Ronin |

could be blockage in the system. if they couldn't recharge it then there is something wrong.
With my experience with AC it could be any number of things. On Freelanders we don't see AC problems at all. Only time I ever saw something bad on a freelander AC was a truck that got struck by lightning. AC in rovers is pretty bulletproof. We rarely see it unless its an old one. |

You say it is blowing hot air - this is from the heater not the A/C. The heater will always override the A/C - it is a good way to defog the car on a cold night - heater and A/c on, the net result is not luke warm air but hot air.
So you may not actually have a A/C problem at all but the heater is simply stuck on. Garry |

As I said in my earlier post - an A/C does not make hot air - so if you have hot air coming out of your vents then the heater must be on. The only exception would be if the A/C was somehow working in reverse (like a household reverse cycle airconditioner/heat pump) but I don't believe this is possible in a car. You need to see what is making the heat first - most likely the heater - stop the heat then sort out the A/C if needed. Cheers Garry |

Actually there has been an interesting turn of events...
The repair guys said the air conditioner clutch has burnt out, and that I'd need to get a new one... They haven't advised yet whether its covered by the warranty. |

Should be,
If you are out of Freon then you shouldn't have cold air, now depending on the outside temp then that will be the temp of the air coming out so if it was hot then by all means it feels like hot air. Thats how all AC systems work. but when the clutch is bad there is freon just no ability to circulate it. |

And the vehicle that was struck by lightning had every single module toasted but no wiring problems. It went along the CAN bus wire and thru the entire system. Blew out the AC too.
The guy was driving and it just got hit by lightning. |
