Default Fuel Pump

Just recently took my 04 (V6) Freelander into the dealership for servicing... They've advised me that I need to get a new fuel pump (as the current one is not functioning properly... it's causing too much fuel to be delivered to the engine).

Now my current mileage is approx. 24186 miles...

I'm having a tuff time understanding this. As well there seems to be some issue with whether not this will be covered by the warranty.

Can anyone give any advise on this?

The fuel pump has an internal regulator that likes to go bad and cause fuel pressure to sky rocket to around 80psi if your lucky. nothing damaging to your car except it sets a fuel trim code.

done quite a few of them. also had a few loose pressure and cause irregular idle.

Thanks for the info... Do you know if the replacement of the fuel pump should be covered by the warranty? Also, is this a cause where the regulator can be replaced or does the entire fuel need to be replaced?
