Glow Plugs - Land Rovers Only

Hello all!
I've been told by the salesman at my local dealer that the 05 Td4 freelander's glow plugs only work below a temperature of 5 degrees c??
Surely this is not correct?
It results in a hard start and lots of smoke.....
Can anyone help?

if that was the case my care would have trouble starting during many of the months!!!!! Just cycle the plugs twice before starting, that has always worked for me
